WATCH: CPM, Muslim League Workers Clash in Kannur after Kerala Local Body Polls Conclude

Kannur: Clashes erupted between Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) and Muslim League workers in Kannur district in Kerala, after the final phase of the local body polls in Kerala concluded on December 14.

A heavy deployment of police personnel was seen in the Kunhi-Mangalam area of Kannur following the incident.

The third and the final phase of local body elections were held on December 14 and the counting of votes for self-governance institutions in the state will be announced on December 16.

According to the data provided by the State Election Commission (SEC), 78.64 percent voter turnout was recorded in the third and final phase of the local body polls concluded in Kerala on Monday.

In a tri-cornered fight between Left Democratic Front (LDF), United Democratic Front (UDF) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the local body elections are seen as a pointer to the assembly elections scheduled in May, 2021.
