Real sink Bilbao to go on level with league leaders

A brace from Karim Benzema and a Toni Kroos long-range screamer guided Real Madrid to a 3–1 win against Athletic Bilbao.

Real Madrid are on third level on points with leaders Rael Sociedad who have played two games less.

It took only 13 minutes for the match to see the first sending off as Raul Garcia earned his second yellow for a foul on Kroos.

But the visitors managed to hold on and were going to the half time with no gaols before Kroos smashed the ball from a long-range strike.

However, the second half sprung a surprise as the 10 men Bilbao scored through Ander Capa.

The match was level till the 73rd minute when Benzema scored a header from a Dani Carvajal cross after Marco Asensio had quickly taken a corner.

Any chance of a comeback was eliminated in the 2nd minute of injury time as Benzema scored after collecting the ball from Luka Modric.
