Parliament to pay floral tributes to the martyrs of 2001 Parliament attack
New Delhi: The Indian Parliament will pay floral tributes to the martyrs of 2001 terror attack on December 13, 2020 at 10:30 am.
On December 13, 2001, five heavily-armed terrorists belonging to terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), stormed the Indian Parliament complex in New Delhi and opened fire indiscriminately.
The attack took place around 40 minutes after the Parliament was adjourned. The Prime Minister and leader of opposition had left the building but many members of the Parliament were still inside including the Home Minister L.K. Advani and Minister of State for Defence Harin Pathak.
Around 14 people, mostly security forces and one civilian, were killed in this incident.
12 years later, on February 9, 2013, one of the convicts of the attack, Afzal Guru was hanged in Tihar jail.
