Instagram’s ‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’ jailed for 10 years in Iran

Iranian Instagram star Fatemeh Khishvand, popular by her Instagram name, ‘Sahar Tabar’ has been jailed for 10 years in Iran, a year after which she was arrested over her social media posts.

Sahar Tabar became a viral sensation, after she posted pictures of herself, which made her appear like a zombie-Angelina Jolie- lookalike. The post had gained her 486,000 followers on Instagram.

However she was arrested on October 5, 2019. Her lawyer confirmed that his client has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for ‘promoting public corruption’. The charges levelled her include, corruption of young people and disrespect for the Islamic Republic, inciting violence, gaining income through inappropriate means and blasphemy.

Tabar had denied rumors that she had 50 surgeries to look like Jolie. According to her, she had a nose job, lip fillers and liposuction but the look was accomplished by makeup and editing.

The 19 year old added, ‘’I did not even think about being like Jolie. Also I did not want to resemble the cartoon character the Corpse Bride’’. It is a way of expressing myself, a kind of art. My fans know that this is not my real face’’.

Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad has called on Angelina Jolie to help Tabar. She tweeted, ‘’10 years jail for Iranian Instagrammer who used makeup and Photoshop to become a zombie Angelina Jolie. Sahar Tabar is only 19. Her joke landed her in jail. Her mother cries every day to get her innocent daughter freed.
