India reports 19,078 new COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 1,03,05,788
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) informed on Saturday (January 2) revealed that India reported 19,078 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total positive cases in the nation to 1,03,05,788.
The almost 19,000 more new infections, the total number of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 2,50,183.
Not only that, but the novel virus has also claimed 224 lives in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,49,218.
However, around 99,06,387 infected patients have also successfully recovered for coronavirus in India.
Maharashtra, which still remains one of the worst-affected states in the country, reported 3,524 new COVID-19 cases and 59 deaths in the past 24 hours.
There are also 52,084 active COVID cases in the state, the health department informed.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported 4,991 new cases, 5,153 recoveries, and 23 deaths on January 1.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain is set to attend the vaccine trial program (Dry Run) on Saturday, conducted by the Union Health Ministry at the Maternity ND Child Welfare (MCW) centre in Daryaganj at 10 AM.
As per the Union Health Ministry, the objective of this dry run for COVID-19 vaccine introduction is to “assess operational feasibility in the use of COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network (Co-WIN) application in field environment, to test the linkages between planning and implementation and to identify the challenges and guide the way forward prior to actual implementation”.
