‘Fortress Gabba captured’: Twitter reacts to Team India’s landmark Test series win over Australia
After Team India registered a historic win over Australia to secure the fourth Test at The Gabba on Tuesday (January 19), fans took-over social media to laud the fighting display from the Indian players.
With this victory, visitors also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and won the four-match Test series 2–1.
What is more special about this win at The Gabba is that, last time a visiting team managed to win at the Brisbane Cricket Ground was back in November 1988, when West India under the captaincy of Sir Viv Richards thrashed Allan Border’s Australia by 9 wickets.
Earlier in the day, Shubman Gill played a propelling innings of 91 to put the tourists in the driving seat. After his dismissal, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane took over the charge and kept to scoreboard ticking.
However, things got even more fiesty after Rishabh Pant’s introduction, who started to play his aggressive-style of cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman fearlessly took-on the Aussie bowling unit and smashed them all over the park and guided India to a 3-wicket win with his propelling unbeaten knock of 89 runs.
For his late heroics, Pant was also named the Player-of-The-Match at the post-match ceremony.
