BJP’s Vetrivel Yatra Begins in Chennai Despite Tamil Nadu Govt’s Disapproval

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) , November 6: After the Tamil Nadu government denied permission for ‘Vetrivel yatra’, BJP state unit in Tamil Nadu has gone ahead with its Vetrivel Yatra in the state.
State BJP President L Murugan has commenced the religious yatra from Chennai despite AIADMK rejected to give permission for the month-long yatra.
The Vetrivel yatra planned by the BJP is a religious campaign from Nov 6 to Dec 6 and will cover six sacred abodes of ‘Lord Muruga’ in the state. The BJP is all set to embark on a month-long tour starting from Thirutthani to Tiruchendur Temples.
On Nov 5, The AIADMK-led government in Tamil Nadu informed the Madras High Court that it has decided to not allow the Vetrivel campaign fearing the second wave of covid infections in the state.
Tamil Nadu BJP president L Murugan said that it is the constitutional right of every individual to worship, adding that Lord Murugan has given them permission to hold the yatra. “Lord Murugan has given us permission. I want to pray to the Lord and it is my constitutional right. Every person has the right to worship. That is why I am proceeding to Thirutthani as we begin our ‘Vetri Val Yatra’,” Murugan told reporters here.
BJP leader H Raja said that if the schools can be allowed to reopen in the state, the ‘Vetrivel Yatra’ can also be conducted. “The state government is allowing schools to reopen but not permitting the yatra saying there is a fear of the second wave of COVID-19.
