Bihar Elections: Lalu’s RJD Has Max Criminal Candidates for Phase II Polls

With Bihar elections underway, many political parties have fielded candidates with criminal cases, an election watchdog agency Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) revealed in its latest report for Phase II Assembly polls on Nov 1

The report titled “Bihar Assembly Elections 2020 — Phase II Analysis of Criminal Background, Financial, Education, Gender and other Details of Candidates” made surprising revelations about the candidates for Bihar Phase II elections.

Out of 1463 candidates analyzed, 502 (34 percent) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.

Out of these, candidates with Serious Criminal Case account for 27 percent which translates to 389 candidates that have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Serious criminal cases include offences that are assault, murder, kidnap, rape-related, offences under Prevention of Corruption Act, offence that are non-bailable and/or maximum punishment is of 5 years or more.

This was found by CDR after analyzing the self-sworn affidavits of all 1463 candidates, who are contesting in the Bihar Assembly Elections Phase III.

All major parties contesting in Bihar phase II elections have given tickets to 47 percent to 64 percent candidates who have declared criminal cases against themselves

The report analysis of party wise candidates show that Lalu Yadav’s RJD has the highest number of criminal candidates in the phase II elections.
